April 2008 Newsletter

submitted by Liz Wilson

I am sorry I am late again, but have had a lot of sickness in my family since coming back from the rally, and I am trying to get the newsletter typed, it’s after midnight Saturday night and my aunt is in critical condition, and I don’t know what tomorrow will hold, so am going to try and get it typed tonight so all of my favorite people will have some news about their CTH’s.

We had such a wonderful time at Mike and Sherry Lucas’ country estate. Mike had it set up real good to keep us dry and warm in his garage that he has for his motor home. It was a good place to be. As usual, we had all but a couple of coaches in on Thursday. Vicki & Paul made a wonderful dinner of chicken bog with all the goodies to go with it. Leon was complaining that he did not like that stuff, but sat down and ate two platefuls, good job Leon. Friday we had a wonderful breakfast of pancakes, bacon, juice and coffee. Dinner Friday night, again was excellent, we had spaghetti, salad, rolls, desserts and tea. I tell you, when you get Vicki, Sherry and Dayne together, they can put a wonderful meal on the table. We had another full southern breakfast Saturday morning of sausage and egg casserole with grits, toast, juice, coffee and wonderful fresh fruit cups. Since we had a few that did not show up because of a little rain, we had leftovers from Thursday and Friday nights and guess what we even got treated to lunch on Saturday. The guys got up early and started cooking the pig for our pig pickin Saturday night and what a feast we had, trimmings included sweet potatoes, slaw, baked beans, hush puppies, banana pudding and tea. We had our 50/50 drawing Friday night and Mike Lucas won $35.00 and gave $20.00 back to the club for our 30th anniversary fund. Now, that is a good host for you. We had the 2nd drawing and Jenny won two tickets to the Steeple Chase race at the Carolina Horse Park that was just a few miles away. Frank and Dayne’s daughter-in-law, Margaret Crumpler, furnished the tickets for our drawing, she is a VIP at BB&T, and anyone that went was invited to their corporate tent. Thanks again Margaret for your wonderful contribution. James T went with Frank, Jack and Barbara went with Jenny and Leon and I am told they had a wonderful time. They all came back full of tales about the racing. Saturday morning after a wonderful breakfast, we had our meeting, starting about 9:15. I owe Mr. OTHO TEW an apology, He told me I had misspelled his name in the last newsletter. I have always called him ORTHO (with the "r") and nobody ever corrected me, and I have heard other people pronounce it the same way, but I was wrong, sorry about that Mr. Tew. Since I can’t pronounce your name right, guess I will just have to call you Mr. Tew. I also said that Alice Tew was taking reservations for the ladies luncheon at our Gear meeting in June, I was wrong, you make the reservations thru GEAR, the number is on your application we all submitted to attend the rally in June. I thought it was nice that someone from our group would be the person to call for reservations. We again discussed the GEAR rally to be held in June in Richmond, Va. We are going to have electric and water. There is a dump station  within our campground for those who may need it. We will be serving coffee and donuts. We had a lot of discussion about our 30th anniversary in September. It’s in Williamston at the Bob Martin Agri. Center. Remember It’s only $130, inclusive, except for the show and dinner at the Deadwood theatre. Sharon Rice is Chairman of the host team consisting of Sarah Wright, Frances Garner and Gaye Young, and is in charge of all volunteers, and guess what, all members are going to be assigned a duty of some sort, so sign up for what YOU want to do. Dayne Crumpler and Gaye Young will be in charge of decorations, Liz Wilson will be in charge of door prizes (I really need a lot of help on this one), Frances Garner will be in charge of registration, Bill Neumann will be in charge of setting up, breaking down, clean up, etc. Sonny Hooks will be in charge of parking. Call or e- mail either of us, and we would really appreciate your help. We work hard, but have fun doing it. If you don’t have the person’s number of e mail, please call me @ 910 624 2412 or e-mail me @ lizwilson624@embarqmail.com; or Sharon Rice @ 252-241-7581, e-mail @lhoward@ec.rr.com. For the 30th anniversary, Gaye is assembling a photo album of all members present and past. If you can email her a picture of you in front of your coach, or if your picture on our website is one to your liking, or attend a rally soon and she will photograph you in front of your coach. Also needed is a paragraph or two about yourselves. Email it to her at gerald_gaye_young@yahoo.com. This book will be continued in the future for new members. For those who need to send in their dues (please, its not too late and its only $12.00 per coach), our treasurer is Jenny Smith @ 910-457-0995 or e-mail @Jsmith1245@ec.rr.com. Her address is 4468 Pam Street SE Southport, NC 28461. Our meeting adjourned around 10:30.

We had happy birthdays to Paul Simerly and Glenda Howard. Not attending with birthdays were: Barbara Belk, Andrea Haggart, Janet Leary, Shelby Lovett, Ann Lucas & Charlie Smith. Happy Anniversary to Tony & Katie Daughtry, Charlie & Elaine Harvell, Eugene & Irene Herring (We missed you two this month, hope you are feeling better Eugene), Charlie & Ginny McPherren & Bud & Kaschi Wales.

I know the rain kept some people away, guys and dolls, we only paid $11.00 per person for all the HOME cooked meals that we had, I hope that our hosts received enough money to cover their expenses, since we had several coaches that did not show.!

Our wonderful hosts for that weekend was Paul & Vicki Simerly, Mike & Sherry Lucas, Frank & Dayne Crumpler and James Tillman and Liz helped out. We had a good time in spite of all the rain, as much as we needed the rain. We wanted to say Rain, Rain, go away and come again another day. We did have a beautiful day Friday, and as usual, we all pulled out our chairs and set around for a happy hour or two. We had a few that were sick including Eugene Herring, Phillip Rowe, Dee Neumann, and Tony & Katie Daughtry. We had $21 collected in happy dollars, Nick was so happy to be back after his double knee replacement, he gave $10. He is doing so good and Nancy Kenny was back after her partial knee replacement. Not only was Nick happy to be back, we were all so happy to have him back and Nancy too. We miss all of our sick ones when they are not with us.

We had several guests, Mike’s neighbor, Ronald Johnson helped with the pig, along with Donald Lowder. We enjoyed having you, also we had Christy & Michael Scarboro, with little Emmy & Luke. (Mike & Sherry’s daughter, son in law and grandchildren). Frank & Dayne’s daughter Kalen and husband Rick Willhide, son Kemp and his wife Margaret. She is the one that gave us the tickets for the steeplechase horse races and opened up the BB&T corporate tent for our people.
